A simple theme can
help tie together all the
elements. This garden has
a wave theme and won a
gold medal for its clever
combination of timber,
concrete, steel and stone.

How’s this for a
cute idea? Bright red
geraniums appear to spill
out of this weathered clay
pot lying on its side.
7
Re-interpreting familiar
elements is another way to
add style to your garden. While
there's nothing fascinating
about a grassy plant in a pot,
it looks brilliant in a planter box
on top of a pergola. Just make
sure you add drainage holes. ►

Tips for making the
most of the show
■ If you want to replicate
how a display garden looks,
or love the plants that have
been used, grab a copy of the
design plan, which is available
at each display garden.
■ Longing for the garden
furnishings used in a display
garden? Chances are they're
available to buy or order at
the show, along with the latest
garden accessories.
■ Make sure you visit the
plant stalls, where new and
exotic plants are for sale.
Plant breeders and wholesale
companies also launch new
cultivars at MIFGS, so you can
get a preview of what will be
coming onto the market.
